Growing Up blog post.

Today in my book, I read about Russell taking a visit to see his mother. He walked into her room and asked if she was happy, and she questioned why she wouldn't be, because she said her father was about to take her out on the river in a boat. She was reliving a day over 60 years ago where her and her father went out together on a boat all day.

Growing Up by Russell Baker

I'm beginning to read "Growing Up" by Russell Baker, and I got through about the first few pages, and this book kind of makes me sad. It's talking about how the author's mother had dementia and how she was starting to forget who Russell was. He'd go to see her and she'd ask "Where's Russell?" And he'd say "I'm Russell." I think that would be one of the hardest things in life, knowing that your mother is forgetting who you are, and you can't change that fact. There's also a part where she called Russell and asked if he was going to come to her funeral that day. I'm guessing it shocked him, because I know it would shock me. That must've been horrible to hear. Nobody wants to hear about their parent's funeral or anything that means they won't be alive anymore.

Favorite part of Thanksgiving

My favorite part of Thanksgiving would probably be just getting to spend time with my family and talk to them and just have fun the whole day. There's nobody in the world I love more than the members of my family, and spending time with them seriously just makes me extremely happy. My mom's side of the family is who I usually spend time with because my dad's side is pretty stuck up and snobby and don't talk to us much, so we usually just hang around my mom's family. We'll go eat and talk for a little bit, but we don't eat much because then we go home and actually have our own family supper with the big turkey and all the other things that people eat with Thanksgiving dinner. I love the food that goes along with Thanksgiving too, but mainly my favorite part is just being able to be with the people I love the most.

What is your favorite thing about the month of November?

My favorite thing about the month of November would probably just be that it's actually November. I love the time of the year, and it's my two brother's birthdays, and of course, Thanksgiving which is nice because I get to be together with my family and I get to spend time with them and especially spend time with the ones that I don't see very much and we get to have tons of delicious food.

Most important thing.

The most important thing in my life right now would probably be my family. I know everyone would probably say that so they wouldn't have to try coming up with anything else, but for me this is literally it. My family means the whole world to me and I would do anything for any member of it. I see my family every day of my life. They're the first people I saw when I was born, and they'll be the last people I see when I pass away. I honestly don't see how people can say that they hate their family whenever they get into arguments with them. I mean, yes, you can be mad at them, but you should never hate your family. My family keeps me sane, seriously. If I didn't get to see my mom, dad, or siblings every day, then I'd end up going crazy, most likely.
